Yes, U-Haul Rents Totes Too
If you’ve been comparing options, you may have noticed U-Haul now offers plastic moving totes alongside their trucks. It’s a newer part of their business, and it’s not available at every location, but it’s real. If a search result or a friend told you “U-Haul has totes now,” they were right.

So the real question isn’t whether U-Haul totes exist. It’s what they actually cost you once you count the driving.
What U-Haul Totes Cost Per Week
U-Haul advertises its Ready-To-Go plastic totes starting at $2.50 per tote per week, though pricing varies by location, and a broader survey of markets found rates running as high as $3.50 per tote for the first week. Either way, that’s the base rental cost only. It doesn’t include getting the totes to your house or getting them back.

Because with U-Haul totes, you drive to a participating location to pick them up, and you drive them back when you’re done. If you don’t have a truck or SUV that can haul 20 to 40 plastic totes, that’s a second rental on top of the totes themselves. And not every U-Haul store carries totes, so depending on where you live, the nearest location with them in stock might not be close.
U-Haul’s totes aren’t really available here in Central Indiana. So maybe this is all a moot point. But, if they do come here, the rest of this article makes sense.
What Totes McGotes Costs Per Tote Per Week
Here’s how our current pricing breaks down per tote, per week, across every package:
- Studio (20 totes, $100, 2 weeks): $2.50 per tote per week
- 1 Bedroom (30 totes, $125, 2 weeks): $2.08 per tote per week
- 2 Bedroom (40 totes, $150, 2 weeks): $1.88 per tote per week
- 3 Bedroom (55 totes, $195, 2 weeks): $1.77 per tote per week
- 4 Bedroom (75 totes, $260, 2 weeks): $1.73 per tote per week
- 5 Bedroom (100 totes, $350, 2 weeks): $1.75 per tote per week
Every package we offer lands at or below U-Haul’s low end, and most land well under it. And that price already includes free local delivery and pickup, plus a dolly. Nobody drives anywhere to get their totes or return them. We bring them to your door and we take them away when you’re done.
Even If You’re Already Renting a U-Haul Truck
Truck rental and tote rental are two separate decisions. If you need a truck, U-Haul is a reasonable place to get one, and you’ll be driving to their lot to pick it up and drop it off either way. That part of the trip doesn’t change.
But the tote decision is still purely a math problem. Renting totes from U-Haul on top of the truck still costs $2.50 to $3.50 per tote per week. Renting from us still costs $1.73 to $2.50 per tote per week, delivered and picked up.
Plus our logo is infinitely cuter. Sorry not sorry.
Same trip to U-Haul for the truck, lower price on the totes either way. There’s no financial case for adding U-Haul totes to the order just because you’re already there for the truck.
Why Cost Per Tote Per Week Is the Number That Matters
Package sizes and rental lengths vary everywhere you look, so a flat sticker price doesn’t tell you much on its own. Cost per tote per week is the number that lets you compare apples to apples, and on that number, we’re cheaper across the board. If you’re not already making a U-Haul run for a truck, our delivery and pickup is the extra edge on top of the lower price. If you are, the price advantage stands on its own.
